About Road Worthy Guides
Road Worthy Guides publishes plain-English guides about tyres and car batteries. Many drivers buy these two items with very little information, and a wrong choice can cost money or put lives at risk. Our aim is to give you enough knowledge to ask the right questions, check what you are being sold, and look after what you buy.
Who is behind this site
Road Worthy Guides is published by E.O.A Dominion Enterprise, run by Eric Ohene Asare, at Graphic Road, Abossey Okai, Accra, Ghana. We have sold brand new tyres and car batteries for seven years, to drivers of all types of vehicles, including fleets.
Why we write these guides
We want to give people education, information, tips and guides, so that they get the best out of their purchase and protect their lives from avoidable incidents. A well-chosen, well-kept tyre or battery makes every journey safer.
What we see most often
Two problems come up again and again:
- Over-inflated tyres. Too much air makes tyres wear in the centre, grip less and break more easily on bad roads. See correct tyre pressure in hot weather and our tyre pressure converter.
- No maintenance on tyres and batteries. Tyres need regular checks, rotation and alignment, and batteries need clean terminals and testing. See tyre rotation, balancing and alignment and how to test a car battery.
How we write
We explain one topic at a time, use figures you can verify, and say so when advice depends on your car or conditions. We point you to your owner's manual and a qualified mechanic when a decision needs one. We also build free tools, such as the tyre date code decoder, to help you check things yourself.
A note on fairness
Because we sell tyres and batteries, we aim to keep our advice practical and honest. We explain how to check any product, whoever sells it, so that you can make your own decision.
What we are not
We are not a replacement for a professional inspection. Every vehicle is different, so always follow your car maker's specifications.
