Tyre Pressure Converter: PSI, Bar and kPa
Pressure gauges, car manuals and tyre placards use different units. Type a value in one unit to see the same pressure in psi, bar and kPa.
How the units relate
- 1 bar is 100 kPa, or about 14.5 psi.
- 1 psi is about 6.9 kPa, or 0.069 bar.
- So 32 psi is about 2.2 bar, or 221 kPa.
Check your pressure the right way
- Measure when the tyres are cold, ideally in the morning before you drive.
- Use the figure on the placard inside the driver's door, in the fuel flap or in the manual. The number on the tyre sidewall is only the maximum.
- Never let air out of a hot tyre to match the number. Driving raises the pressure.
- Check all four tyres and the spare once a month.
